How Wiliadel Changed my Perspective on Brand Positioning in Marketing

Recently, I made the decision to start positioning myself in the marketing field. To be honest, this has always been a dream of mine. So I started building a plan and began observing other marketers, creators, and influencers, people who were already doing what I aspire to do. And honestly, I felt inspired.
Seeing so many talented people made me think to myself, “This might actually be easier than I thought.” However, something happened very quickly. I started feeling like I had to do what everyone else in the industry was doing: post like them, talk like them, and build content the same way they did. In my mind, that was what it took to be taken seriously and what would help me position myself in the field.
Then something unexpected happened that completely changed the way I think about positioning.

I attended a concert at a church called Agape here in Haiti. The event was organized to celebrate the relaunch of a well-known gospel band in the community called FA7. The energy was incredible, as people were dancing, singing along, and raising their hands, while everyone around me was fully enjoying the moment.
Meanwhile, there was me.
I was standing still, with my hands in my pockets and a neutral face, simply observing and enjoying the music in my own way. To be fair, compared to the people around me, I probably looked a little strange, since everyone was moving while I wasn’t dancing at all.
Then something surprising happened.
Out of the entire crowd, Wiliadel Denervil noticed me. She suddenly stopped the music, turned on the microphone, and pointed in my direction.
“Hey! Yes, you! The one with the red T-shirt…”
At that moment, I looked around because I thought she was talking to someone else. But, she continued and asked, “Why are you not dancing?” And just like that, the entire crowd turned and looked at me, hundreds of eyes looking straight at me.
At that moment, something clicked in my mind. It was a realization that completely changed the way I see marketing and positioning.
Standing out is not always about doing more; sometimes it is simply about doing things differently. Because in a world where everyone is fighting for attention, positioning yourself by doing exactly what everyone else is doing rarely works. Similarly, in a world where storytelling is increasingly replaced by AI-generated content, the worst thing a brand can do is blend in.
And in a world where markets are more crowded than ever, your difference is not a weakness; it is your greatest marketing asset.
That moment at the concert made me reflect on something important. Maybe positioning myself was not about copying the strategies that already work for others, but rather about being myself, finding my own way to communicate, and sharing my own perspective while creating value in my own style. Instead of trying to look like every other marketer online, it might be about bringing my voice, my vision, and my experiences into the conversation.
Because here is the interesting part:
I was probably not the only person in the crowd wearing a red T-shirt that night, yet I was the only one enjoying the concert in my own way. Somehow, that difference was enough to be noticed, and that is exactly where differentiation comes in.
Your brand is not just about being present online; rather, it is about showing people why you are different. Your story, your perspective, your voice, and your way of solving problems are what make people stop scrolling. The brands that win today are not the ones trying to copy what works for others; instead, they are the ones brave enough to say, “This is who we are, and this is what makes us different.”
So here is today’s marketing lesson: do not try to fit into the market; instead, position your brand so that the market notices you.
Because when your brand is clear and authentic, people do not just see you; they remember you.
If your brand is currently “dancing with the crowd,” posting the same content, using the same strategies, and saying the same things as everyone else, then chances are you are blending in.
At Kayasah, we help brands stand out from the crowd by defining their voice, clarifying their message, and building an intentional presence to capture attention.
